The first Alice film ever is this tiny 1903 silent, a relic from the very infancy of cinema…
Just think: a hundred and twelve years ago.Based on Sir John Tenniel’s illustrations, partly tinted – and with a real cat (the director’s own pussy) playing the Cheshire Cat, the movie was badly damaged. What you see here is a restored version, comprising eight of the original twelve minutes. Even shortened, it is entirely delightful.
Do you want to play a game? Before you watch it, have a look at Tenniel’s illustrations here, and then hunt for similarities.
Have fun.
